1942 Last: 12.5D

1942 last is really nice. Locked in heel and waist. Ball opens up with nice lateral space then comes back to an almond toe. Reminds be a bit of the Viberg 2020 last. Arch alignment is good. My right foot is borderline 13 HTB, so maybe not as perfect as left foot is. I may consider a 13 if I get another pair in this last. But 100% happy with the fit.

I chose these specifically for the 2025/2026 Dome. I had been wanting to try an Oldspeed and this GTMO popped up, so I jumped in.

How did you determine your size?

After putting in this order, I got a pair of RTW Oldpeed in the older last, size 12.5D. Those were too narrow. I reached out to Dave to let him know that the 12.5D doesn’t work for me and he suggested that we could try the new 1942 last, which he felt would work for my measurements. But, he was also open to making adjustments on the other last. I chose the new last and it was a home run!

Pretty simple online store. No issues ordering at all.

Use & wear

Outdoor Activities
Leisure
Wet Conditions

Since I’m a work-from-home desk jockey, I have to make extra effort to wear my boots. First day of dome, I did wear them in the house for about 6 hours. Beyond that most miles are neighborhood walks of 2-3 miles on mixed terrain to ease into break-in and around town errands. They’ve gotten some sun and some rain, dew.

Color Change

The leather has changed fairly quickly, culminating in a neetsfoil oil conditioning after first week. The leather is VERY dry and soaked up conditioning, which softened it up a bit. It also darkened from the original pinkish color to kind of an orangey tan. The grain darkened, looking a bit like tiger stripes.

Satisfied with the Fit

Overall fit is really nice for my low volume feet. Foot is locked in just right. Been getting some not-so-comfortable rubbing on the tops of my toes during break-in, but I seem to be just about through that, especially after conditioning.

The clicking really shines. The grain alignment is amazing and very striking. The fit and finish is really nice and the 1942 last is a home run.

Final thoughts

Good Value

Just overall a pleasure to wear. Dave was great to work with to get the sizing and fit right. I’ll definitely consider another pair on this last.
