Seeing photos of what Viberg’s Service Boot was capable of in Natural Chromexcel made me want to pursue the same patina journey.
I’m a 13D in almost every other boot I’ve owned, and I have a lot of boots. After reading that Viberg’s 2030 Last tends to run on the large side, I knew it’d be a safe bet.
Ordered straight from Viberg’s online store.
Mostly casual around the house and around town. Occasionally wore for light chores around property.
Easily scratched but recovers well. Pretty uniform overall but takes on good patina with regular wear.
The 2030 last fits snug around the foot with a substantial heel. The toe box is average. Everything is right in the Goldey Locks zone, which is probably why this is their most popular last.
Over built. Tough. Thick leather with rugged construction. Heavy boot. I experienced some squeezing from both heels, but sat be expected with so much leather rubbing together. It wasn’t overly obnoxious so it was easy to live with.
Seems like a rugged sole. It’s still going strong after 6 months of regular wear. It can be a little slippery but nothing too out of the ordinary. In acclimate weather I would wear a more appropriately treaded boot. For the style of the boot I feel like the Dainite sole serves it well.
Every boot connoisseur should own a pair of natural chromexcel, and I’d have a hard time recommending anyone but Viberg. Their timeless styling and quality construction make it a boot you could wear for a lifetime. I was hoping to end up with a patina similar to the 2022 PT winner, and while I can tell it’s well on its way, it’s going to take a while longer for me. The trade-off to the superior materials and construction is that this is a heavy boot that can be tough to break in. Styling is very subjective, but I felt like this was not necessarily the type of boot that could “go with anything”. Its slim silhouette and robust heel made it tough to pull off with a casual jeans/t-shirt outfit. However, I thought it looked very smart with a business-casual, or even church Sunday semi-formal look.
