The boots are distinguished by their use of soft, fine-grained French veal calf leather imported from France, chosen because droughts in Australia have made consistent local sourcing difficult. Each pair undergoes personal inspection, approval, and signature by master craftsmen including Steve Moore, who signs the boots on a brass plaque fixed to the distinctive red leather sole that echoes the rich red earth of the Australian outback.

The Signature Craftsman Boot is constructed from a singular piece of French veal calf leather. Veal calf is a soft, fine-grained leather known for its smooth texture, lightweight feel, and refined appearance. The French veal calf leather is fine-grained with a stylish high shine finish that polishes beautifully.

The insole consists of full vegetable-tanned leather with integrated foam, providing underfoot comfort and arch support. Between the insole and outer sole, granulated corkalene filler offers increased cushioning. The signature leather sole is finished with rich gum lacquer and stained red, creating a distinctive appearance.

The boots are handcrafted at R.M. Williams' Adelaide workshop using over 80 traditional techniques and processes passed down through generations of bootmakers. The unique one-piece leather design ensures only one seam at the back of the boot, following the distinctive shape established in the original 1932 Craftsman design with a subtle ridge down the front.

Construction employs Goodyear welted methods, where a strip of durable leather is stitched between the upper and sole. This provides a barrier against water and mud while making the boot fully repairable. The welt stitching uses hot wax dipped thread for added durability and strength. Extra fine stitching serves as a sign of quality and luxury throughout the boot.

Each Signature Craftsman Boot includes a brass plaque on the sole personally checked, approved, and signed by one of R.M. Williams' top three master boot makers. The Master Craftsman signature is written by hand, with current master craftsman Steve Moore among those who sign the boots. This personal touch distinguishes the Signature Craftsman from standard production models.

Design details include a refined square chisel toe, flat one-piece composition heel, and pull-on woven tugs. The rich leather sole stain and extra fine stitching emphasize the quality of the construction. The boots have been worn by world leaders past and present, reflecting their status within the R.M. Williams product line.

The Signature Craftsman Boot is made to order with a lead time of 16 to 20 weeks from Australia. The boots are not available in the United Kingdom and must be ordered directly from Australia. Because they are custom made, the boots are non-returnable.

Half sizes are available from seven to 13 in G (regular) fit and H (wide) fit. Available colors include Black, Chestnut, and Dark Tan. Each pair comes with foot inserts and is individually bagged in soft R.M. Williams cloth bags. The retail price is $1,199 AUD.
