These boots handled it all. To be fair, even with the TPR infusion in the leather, on super rainy days, I would fall back to my waxed boots or my Goretex. As a new father, I've traded the rugged adventures of my early life, where my love for boots was born, for a different kind of journey. Most days, these boondockers carry me through the trenches of dog-and-stroller combo walks, diaper runs, and office hours of a normal week. But they also easily stand up to the long travel days, Saigon alleys, and Taipei storms during our motherland trip to study our family roots.
In about 130 days of wear since November, they've been my constant companion. One particular heavy typhoon within the first week of picking up these boots from Akito's shop set the tone for how this pair would age. I started by breaking them in around the house- my standard procedure for new footwear. I prefer the shaft to mold around the ankle before any serious wear; otherwise, they can feel loose and require re-lacing throughout the day. Still, these had a slower start than I initially planned.
The beginning of the Patina Thunderdome coincided with some stress and upheaval at work. As often happens, life got in the way, and wearing a new pair of boots took a backseat. Once things settled, I refocused my attention on them. They have been my exclusive pair for the last six months, accompanying me through my daily routine.
