They're light compared to the pair I've designated as my digging boots, but are sturdy nonetheless for that type of work, though sturdy as they are, the flexibility in these boots is remarkable; it's like there isn't even a break-in period. I imagine this is for extra sock layers for the -40 winters we get here. I made my own insoles from veg tan. Stacked a few layers and added some extra layers to build up the arch.
