About

The Hathorn Packer is a heritage work boot produced by White's Boots as part of their Legacy Collection. Based on the Original Packer design from 1936, the boot features an eight-inch full grain water-resistant leather upper and handsewn stitchdown construction. The Hathorn Packer represents White's accessible heritage work boot line, maintaining traditional construction methods while offering proven durability for outdoor work applications.

The boot is built on White's proprietary 690-C Arch-Ease Last with high arch support and utilizes a Vibram composition sole with packer heel. As part of White's rebuildable boot line, the Hathorn Packer can be resoled and reconstructed for extended service life, distinguishing it from most factory-made work boots.

Construction and specifications

The Hathorn Packer employs handsewn stitchdown construction, a traditional bootmaking method passed down through generations at White's since 1853. The boot features an eight-inch full grain water-resistant leather upper paired with a leather midsole and shank construction. This all-leather construction provides structural integrity and allows for the boot's rebuild capability.

The sole system consists of a Vibram composition sole attached to a packer heel design. The packer heel is tapered and slightly wider than a cowboy heel, providing stability for outdoor work applications. Built on the 690-C Arch-Ease Last, the boot incorporates White's high arch support system that molds to the wearer's foot over time.

The boot construction includes fire-resistant properties and is carefully made and bottomed at White's manufacturing facility. Unlike typical factory boots, the Hathorn Packer's construction allows it to be rebuilt for extended lifetime, with rebuild services typically costing half the price of a new boot.

Heritage and history

The Hathorn Packer traces its design to White's Original Packer boot, first developed in 1936. This heritage design represents part of White's continuous bootmaking tradition that began when Edward White established his boot shop in 1853. The Arch-Ease technology incorporated in the boot was developed and trademarked by Otto White in 1926, representing decades of innovation in supportive footwear design.

White's Boots relocated to Spokane, Washington in 1900, where the company continues manufacturing heritage work boots using traditional methods. Otto White remained active on the factory floor until his death in 1972, ensuring the preservation of hand-crafted construction techniques that define the Hathorn Packer's quality standards.

The Hathorn line represents White's more accessible heritage offering while maintaining the company's commitment to American manufacturing and traditional bootmaking craftsmanship. The boot emphasizes old-world quality and construction methods that have served workers across various trades for over a century.

Customization options

The Hathorn Packer is available in multiple leather color options including Brown, Black, Red Dog, and Distress Roughout finishes. Width options include D and EE sizes to accommodate different foot shapes. The boot is produced as a made-to-order item with a 14-16 week production lead time, reflecting White's custom manufacturing approach.

The boot is designed for comfort across various trades including ranchers, construction workers, and mechanics. Its customizable nature allows buyers to specify leather type and color preferences while maintaining the core construction specifications that define the Hathorn Packer's performance characteristics.

White's positioning of the Hathorn Packer emphasizes its suitability for heritage footwear enthusiasts who require functional work boots with traditional construction and authentic materials. The customization options allow buyers to tailor the boot's appearance while preserving its fundamental construction and performance attributes.
