About

The Packer Pointed Toe is a handcrafted work boot manufactured by White's Boots using traditional stitchdown construction methods. Originally designed for packers who loaded horses and rode through rugged terrain to transport goods and supplies, the boot features a steep Cuban heel and pointed toe configuration that facilitates easy stirrup entry and secure footing. Built on White's proprietary 695 Arch-Easeâ„¢ Last, the Packer Pointed Toe incorporates the highest arch support in the company's collection and maintains the three-generation bootmaking tradition established by the White family since 1853.

The boot is constructed with a 10-inch full grain water-resistant leather upper and features Vibram composition sole with classic cowboy heel, leather midsole, and shank construction. White's manufactures the Packer Pointed Toe at their 42,000-square-foot facility in Spokane, Washington using handsewn stitchdown construction involving over 25 unique hand-performed stages. The model 795C is available in Red Dog, Black, and Brown leather colorways with sizing from 7-13 in D (medium) and EE (wide) width options, retailing at approximately $748.

Construction

White's builds the Packer Pointed Toe using handsewn stitchdown construction, a process passed down from bootmaker to bootmaker since the company's founding in 1853. The construction involves over 25 unique stages performed entirely by hand, with master bootmakers hand-lasting, hand-welting, and hand-bottoming each boot. The hand-welting process uses an awl and thread to stitch the vamp directly into the insole at three stitches per inch, creating a durable and water-resistant seam that allows the boot to be entirely rebuildable.

The upper consists of 10-inch full grain water-resistant leather cut from the highest quality portions of the hide to provide flexibility and durability. The all-leather construction includes a leather insole, midsole, and shank that generates White's signature high arch support while providing a solid yet moldable foundation that forms to the individual foot without compromising structural integrity. Hand-lasting ensures the leather is stretched and secured around the last by hand, offering a truly customized fit that allows the boot to mold like a second skin as it breaks in.

Design and Specifications

The Packer Pointed Toe is built on White's 695 Arch-Easeâ„¢ Last, known internally as the "Thoroughbred Last" and featuring the highest cowboy arch in the company's collection. The last incorporates a narrow toe box with pointed toe design and includes two inches of height to prevent slipping in stirrups during riding applications. White's developed the 695 as an Arch-Easeâ„¢ last during the 1980s, and it quickly gained popularity among male and female riders throughout the Pacific Northwest region.

The boot's Vibram composition sole provides heavy-duty wear resistance for trail applications, while the classic cowboy heel maintains the traditional profile essential for equestrian use. Available in three leather colors—Red Dog, Black, and Brown—the Packer Pointed Toe offers sizing from 7-13 in both D (medium) and EE (wide) width configurations. White's recommends that most customers order a half size down from their natural shoe size to achieve proper fit with the high-arch last construction.

Heritage

The Packer boot design originated during White's expansion period in the 1920s and 1930s when the company developed new lines including the Lineman, Sportsman, Summer Logger, Packer, Oxford, Semi-Dress, and Cruiser models. Otto White, the third-generation bootmaker, spent more than 20 years studying foot anatomy to develop comfort-focused designs, leading to the trademarking of the Arch-Ease technology in 1926. The pointed toe and steep heel configuration reflects the boot's origins as working footwear for packers who transported supplies via horseback through challenging terrain.

White's Boots traces its heritage to 1853 when Edwin White established the family business in Connecticut before the Civil War. The company relocated through several locations before settling in Spokane, Washington in 1915, where production continues today using traditional bootmaking methods. The hand-sewn stitchdown construction technique represents an unbroken chain of craftsmanship knowledge passed between generations of White family bootmakers through 1972, when Otto White remained active on the factory floor until his death.

Applications

White's designed the Packer Pointed Toe for ranchers, outfitters, construction workers, and mechanics who require durable work footwear with specialized arch support. The boot's pointed toe box and Cuban heel configuration make it particularly suitable for horseback riding applications, where the shape facilitates quick stirrup entry and secure footing. The high arch design provided by the 695 Arch-Easeâ„¢ Last makes extended periods of standing and walking more comfortable for workers across various demanding occupations.

The boot accommodates professional use in construction, ranch work, and mechanical applications where workers spend significant time on their feet. White's emphasizes that an hour spent on the Packer's high arch support transforms the boots into an essential tool in a worker's collection. The entirely rebuildable construction allows for professional resoling and rebuilding services, extending the boot's functional lifespan well beyond conventional work footwear. Made-to-order production requires approximately 14-16 weeks lead time, reflecting the extensive hand-construction process.
