Annonay Vocalou Calf is a full-grain box calf leather with a casein finish produced by Tannerie D'Annonay. The leather features a semi-aniline finish with a lustrous surface that is designed to be easy to shine. It is used in the production of dress boots and shoes, particularly by Canadian bootmaker Viberg in several of their premium footwear models.
Box calf leather represents a traditional leather finishing technique, and Vocalou Calf incorporates this method with Annonay's tanning expertise. The casein finish provides the leather with its characteristic sheen and polishing properties.
Vocalou Calf is characterized by its semi-aniline finish, which creates a slight sheen on the leather surface while allowing the natural grain to remain visible. The casein finish applied during production contributes to the leather's lustrous appearance and makes it particularly receptive to polishing. As a full-grain box calf leather, Vocalou retains the complete grain layer of the hide, which provides both durability and the ability to develop a natural patina over time.
The leather is available in multiple colorways including Cognac, Cigar (brown), Black, and Tan. These colors are offered through premium footwear manufacturers who use the material in their product lines.
Viberg uses Vocalou Calf in the construction of several boot and shoe models, including dress boots and more formal footwear styles. The leather's refined appearance makes it suitable for applications where a polished aesthetic is desired. According to Viberg's product descriptions, the leather represents "the perfect combination of sophistication and durability."
The material is selected for high-end dress boots and shoes where both appearance and longevity are important considerations. The ability of the leather to accept and retain a shine makes it appropriate for formal and dressy footwear applications.
Maintenance of Vocalou Calf involves removing surface dirt with a clean cloth or brush as a first step. For deeper cleaning, Viberg recommends applying Leather Castile Soap, wiping with a damp cloth, and allowing the leather to dry fully before conditioning.
Conditioning should be performed every three to four months or as needed, using Shoe Cream or Leather Conditioner appropriate for box calf leather. After conditioning, the leather should be buffed with a Horsehair Shine Brush to restore its characteristic luster. Between wears, storing footwear with shoe trees helps absorb excess moisture and maintain the shape of the shoes or boots.
