The Coniston 2 is a high leg derby boot with a straight toe cap manufactured by Crockett & Jones. Released in October 2022 as part of the brand's 25th Retail Anniversary Collection, the boot features Last 375, which offers a more refined silhouette compared to the original Coniston's Last 325. The Coniston 2 is constructed using the Goodyear welt method and features a storm welt with Dainite rubber soles for water resistance. The anniversary edition is offered in hatch grain shell cordovan sourced from Horween Leather Company in Chicago.
The Coniston 2 is built on Last 375, which emerged in January 2008 as part of Crockett & Jones' Main Collection. Last 375 features a medium round toe with increased toe depth and a slimmed down back part. The last is described as having a softer square toe compared to other lasts in the collection, and it fits true to size alongside Lasts 365 and 378.
The boot uses Goodyear welt construction, where the upper is stitched to a welt that is then stitched to the sole. A storm welt provides added protection against water infiltration. The Dainite rubber sole offers durability and traction while maintaining a relatively low profile. The boot weighs 2.5 kg per pair.
The anniversary edition features hatch grain shell cordovan from Horween. The hatch grain pattern is embossed onto the shell cordovan and finished with aniline dye and a light tipped pigment, creating a two-tone antique appearance. Horween developed this hatch grain pattern in line with their famous Russian Calf leather, utilizing an embossed texture that adds visual interest to the smooth shell cordovan surface.
The original Coniston featured in Crockett & Jones' inaugural retail collection in 1997 when the brand opened its flagship store on London's Jermyn Street. That original model, built on Last 325, has remained a pillar of the collection since its introduction. Last 325, established in March 1995, has been in production for more than 30 years and is particularly renowned for country styles, brogue derbys, and boots.
The primary distinction between the two models lies in the toe design. Last 325 presents a rounder toe profile suited to traditional country wear, while Last 375 offers a more refined square toe that provides a dressier aesthetic. Both lasts feature medium round toes with increased toe depth, but the 375's slimmed down back part and softer square toe create a sleeker overall appearance.
The Coniston 2 was created to commemorate 25 years of Crockett & Jones' flagship store on London's Jermyn Street. The store opened in 1997, and the anniversary collection marked a quarter-century of retail presence in one of London's premier shopping districts.
The boot includes fully lasted shoe trees stained in British racing green with the anniversary logo, and comes in special packaging created for the collection. The retail price was $1,450 USD, and the boot was offered in sizes 6 through 12, though it is currently out of stock in all sizes.
