Easymoc

The brand originated from founder Greg Cordeiro's experience in footwear design and product development, including previous work at Clarks and co-founding New England Outerwear, where he developed the original LazyMoc concept around 2013-2014. Cordeiro transitioned to Easymoc approximately three years later, responding to shifting trends in menswear footwear as casual alternatives to heritage boots gained popularity.

Cordeiro discovered Maine's surviving hand-sewing tradition by chance when investigating a sewing machine sale, stumbling upon a workshop where two craftspeople were making shoes independently and selling them on eBay. This encounter led to establishing a formal workshop that would employ veteran Maine shoemakers, including an 88-year-old craftsman with over 60 years of hand-sewing experience.

The company deliberately positioned itself within Maine's centuries-old moccasin heritage, which traces to Native American footwear adopted by New England colonists. This distinctly American shoemaking tradition evolved through blending European and North American techniques, with hand sewing remaining central to the practice even as machinery advanced through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Maine once served as one of the world's premier shoemaking centers before offshoring significantly diminished the industry in the 1970s and 1980s.

Easymoc operates a small workshop in Lewiston, Maine, employing 13 workers, with only 5 possessing the specialized hand-sewing skills required for traditional moccasin construction. This scarcity reflects the broader decline of trained craftspeople in American shoemaking. The production process relies on vintage machinery including Little Way sewing machines, combined with techniques such as hand-stamping leather and hand-finishing welts.

The company maintains strict domestic sourcing priorities while acknowledging practical realities of specialized materials. Components include Vibram soles from Italy, shanks from the American Midwest, leather from the United Kingdom, and glue from New Hampshire. Cordeiro maintains that everything is produced in-house to ensure quality control, distinguishing manufacturers from brands through commitment to hands-on production oversight.

Hand-sewn moccasin construction represents what Cordeiro describes as 0.0001 percent of footwear production globally. The technique requires wrapping the vamp leather fully under the foot and closing it with a moccasin seam by hand-sewing the plug to the toe and kicker on the heel, creating a completely closed pattern using only an awl, needle, and thread. This labor-intensive process demands significant physical endurance and specialized skill developed over years of practice.

The company produces several models maintaining hand-sewn construction principles. The Easymoc slip-on serves as the foundational design, drawing aesthetic inspiration from the L.L. Bean Camp Moc, a Maine classic invented in 1937.

The Rangeley Boot represents the brand's most technical offering, combining traditional hand-sewn moccasin construction with heritage boot design through double or triple vamp construction and waterproof leather. The boot uses two finishes of the same leather from C.F. Stead tannery in Leeds, England—an oiled nubuck for the vamp, mud guard, and top panel, with matching full-grain suede for most of the upper and center tongue panel. The vamp and mudguard wrap under the foot like a traditional moccasin, with a cutout under the arch accommodating a steel shank. A Vibram EVA lug outsole is Blake-stitched to the midsole for resolability.

The Scout Boot serves as the company's chukka-height offering, described as a versatile, classic design suitable for various applications. Additional models include the Trailside Chukka, expanding the lineup while maintaining consistent construction methods.

Each model features hand-stitched toes and small-batch production in the Lewiston workshop, ensuring the traditional techniques and quality standards established by the brand's veteran craftspeople.
