BLKBRD Luchador Service Boot in Horween Natural ChromexcelBy fieldlaf • April 3, 2024"The overall break-in wasn’t bad, and the boots were comfortable to wear all day after a few days. I did have some heel slipping that lasted about a week until the heel cup conformed to my foot.
The Chromexcel leather recovers from scuffs in a magical way. I am really impressed how easy it is to shine with a quick brush, and I did that every few days. After 4 months and getting the boots quite wet a few times, I used leather conditioner once.
The color has developed nicely from a light peanut butter to a rich caramel that I look forward to watching through the years...."Read the full review

I treated them with Sapphir waterproofing and Black rock conditioner.. it’s had some burgundy and other brown shades throughout.. varies in forget lighting. It’s developed some slight creases and bends ., I’m sure had i strictly worn Just these daily they would patina much more ., but they were a custom one of a kind boot ., so I didn’t really beat on them .. They felt comfortable out of the box, minus a slight squeeze on my small toes. After about a month that was gone. I tend to get relaxed with my care routine. I like to brush them or wipe them down with a damp rag every couple days to keep the work dust off of them. Sometimes they go a week or more before this happens. I did get a heel blister about day three due to thin socks. After a couple days rest and better socks I didn’t have much of a problem. I use full insole arch supports which take up a lot of volume and the shoes felt tight on the top of my foot under the laces. I still have adequate toe room. After a couple months they relaxed from almost uncomfortably tight to perfectly snug.
For care I regularly use a horse hair brush. If they get very wet I let them dry and then condition them. I also condition them before the monthly photo shoot. I use either the Venetian Leather Balm or the Saphir Renovateur. I can’t decide which cream I like better.
There’s not a lot of color change in the leather, being a navy blue. There is some very dark tea core starting to show through. It’s subtle. The patina is showing up more in texture than color at this point. The leather is substantial and took some getting used to. The leather is slowly softening up and I expect these boots to keep getting better with time while also holding their shape...."Read the full review

I probably could have conditioned it once or twice more than I did, but I still think the leather has held up considerably. I probably went 2 months between conditions, which involved cleaning the boot thoroughly, then just applying some shoe cream. I did brush much more often than that, probably once a week casually, often during calls when I was off camera. I don’t really have a specific break in process, I just wear them immediately and suffer the consequences...."Read the full review

It's one of those leathers that you just want to keep rubbing. The smell is awesome, just like most cxl. And it still has that great leather smell go this day.
