Toasted Coconut Dublin is an exclusive orange-brown colorway of Horween Dublin leather produced by Horween Leather Company exclusively for Viberg boots. This full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather features the signature waxy finish characteristic of Dublin leather processing, combined with the distinctive warm mid-brown coloration that exhibits orange undertones and distinctive patina development characteristics.
The colorway represents Horween's specialized approach to Dublin leather production, utilizing the same Cordovan vegetable tanning liquor formulas that are over 100 years old. Toasted Coconut Dublin maintains all the traditional characteristics of Dublin leather while offering Viberg customers a unique color option that showcases the leather's notable aging characteristics and pull-up effect.
Toasted Coconut Dublin begins with Horween's traditional Dublin leather production process, which applies shell cordovan tanning methods to top-quality cowhide. The leather undergoes vegetable tanning using proprietary Cordovan liquor formulas developed over a century ago, incorporating a richer blend of oils and waxes compared to conventional vegetable-tanned leathers.
Following the tanning process, the leather receives an infusion of natural waxes before being hot-plated and ironed to create the characteristic smooth surface finish. This specialized treatment took Horween nearly three years to develop and perfect, representing a specialized technique that adapts traditional leather processing methods.
The Toasted Coconut colorway exhibits the distinctive pull-up effect fundamental to Dublin leather, where flexing or folding causes oils within the leather to migrate to the surface, creating tonal variations that can be buffed back to near-original appearance. This property adds substantial character to the leather and demonstrates its internal oil and wax content.
The leather maintains the full-grain structure with natural hide characteristics preserved, including grain creases and texture variations. Like other Dublin variants, Toasted Coconut initially feels slightly firm due to the wax content, particularly in cold conditions, but softens quickly with use and body heat.
Toasted Coconut Dublin develops a distinctive patina over time and usage, with the orange-brown base color deepening and developing more complex tonal variations. The leather's rich blend of oils and waxes enables beautiful aging characteristics that enhance the original color depth while showcasing the natural grain patterns.
The patina development process creates an increasingly rugged and authentic appearance, with areas of regular flexing developing lighter tones that contrast with less-stressed sections, creating a unique wear pattern specific to each pair of boots.
Viberg produces boots in Toasted Coconut Dublin using their standard stitchdown construction methods at their Victoria, BC facility. The typical construction includes the 2030 last, tan kip full lining, and antique brass eyelets, maintaining consistency with other Dublin leather offerings while showcasing the distinctive colorway.
Each pair receives stitchdown construction featuring heavy-weight leather insoles with solid leather heel and toe stiffeners, creating a 100% natural chassis that conforms to foot shape over time. The construction process involves hand-lasting using traditional tools and techniques, with two rows of side-by-side stitching attaching the upper to the leather midsole.
Toasted Coconut Dublin represents part of Viberg's limited-run Heritage leather collections, with small-batch production maintaining exclusivity. The colorway appears periodically in both Service Boot and other Viberg styles, typically featuring black Dainite outsoles or other premium sole options depending on the specific makeup.
Production occurs entirely at Viberg's Canadian facility, where master craftspeople handle each stage of bootmaking through over 200 individual steps, with final finishing touches applied by hand to ensure quality standards.
