Few scratches along the way, few bumps. No major signs of heavy wear. Wouldn’t fit my lifestyle.
The end patina is a nice shiny dark brown. Really love the end result.

Only on the high spots has the finish worn through, exposing the nap. This has given them a sort of crocked or antiqued look. I really like the reddish brown of the nap in contrast with the almost black finish. It's a striking look.
The thickness of the leather did, of course, result in a little bit of a break in period, but now after six months, they have fully conformed to my feet, ankles, and calves.
Putting them on, when I fold the tongue and close the uppers, they line up with the shape of me. The laces are only there to keep them closed.
When they get dirty, I usually hose them off and wipe them down with a shop rag. I don't usually have a horsehair brush handy at work.
I've definitely not tested them gently. There have been a couple times that a sharp metal corner has jammed into them (on the left boot especially) but nothing comes of it, just a little scratch.
Honestly, why bother with regular roughout when you could have the beauty and complexity of waxed flesh?..."Read the full review

The clicking is superb, as there are almost zero wrinkles and creases, only large rolls at the flex points. Out of the box they were stiff but after a few days of daily wear, lots of kneeling and flexing of the leather, they loosened a lot. Every few weeks I would brush them to clean them up, and every couple months apply a conditioner to the leather. They’ve held up great, however there’s a slight squeak in the left boot toe area now...."Read the full review

Wiped them down with a wet rag when they were dirty, but for the most part just let the leather do its thing. I didn't condition the waxed flesh with anything.
It's been durable and has kept my feet dry in the rainy weather we have here.
I was hoping it would have shown more of the lighter nap under the wax, but it seems to have burnished back down rather than rub off. Still happy with it though, it's just the nature of the environment they were in.

This is why horween is so well known, this is why everyone uses this leather on footwear. Sturdy but supple, flexible but never weak. With every scratch and scrape and scuff they gain character, with every flex and wrinkle they add to their story, all the while never compromising on their ability to last. I have conditioned them a few times after some severe weather and even added some color back with Venetian shoe cream. After all, they’re meant for working in a suit shop. After the first month of regular wear the leather began to take shape to my foot. Month two is when deep wrinkles and creases showed easily, and I’d say month three is when the footbed felt custom to my foot. I brush almost daily, before each wear and have only conditioned lightly with neatsfoot oil. Its no wonder that CXL is a popular choice among bootmakers. Though the British Tan CXL has held its color pretty well, you can see the teacore peeking through in high use areas like the counter cover and some caramelization on the toe box...."Read the full review
