NF Bootmaker is an independent boot workshop operated by Nathan Florsheim from his home studio in Chicago. The workshop specializes in custom-made boots, with each pair produced entirely by Florsheim using traditional construction methods.
The Belmont Boot uses single-row full-vamp stitchdown construction, a method where the upper is folded outward and stitched directly to the midsole. Standard construction features include horsehide vamp liners, solid brass hardware, brass tacks, and hand-stitched outsoles.
The boots are built on 6mm vegetable-tanned buffalo leather insoles with 6mm vegetable-tanned leather shanks for arch support. Heel counters use 3mm vegetable-tanned leather, while the midsoles are constructed from 3mm vegetable-tanned leather. Heel lifts are made from 5mm vegetable-tanned leather, providing a stable base for the outsole attachment.
The Belmont Boot offers multiple customization options to accommodate individual preferences. Vamp options include plain toe as standard, cap toe for an additional $15, and brogue cap toe for an additional $25. Buyers can choose between unstructured toe boxes as standard or structured toe boxes for an additional $25.
Thread color can be customized beyond the standard tonal option, allowing for contrast stitching. Edge finish options include natural, medium brown, dark brown, black, and oiled black. Customers can mix and match leathers for multi-tone makeups and select matching or contrasting tongue leather.
Leather options are sourced from suppliers including Tannery Row, District Leather, Maverick, and Rocky Mountain Leather. Baker leathers are available with a $100 upcharge. The workshop does not work with shell cordovan. Available leather options have included Horween Brown Courtland Chromexcel and J&FJ Baker Black Waxed Flesh Military Butt.
NF Bootmaker's books are closed as of 2025. Interested customers can sign up for a newsletter to receive notifications when new booking periods open. The workshop offers repair services on all their work. Each order includes a 100% organic cotton logo tote, and boots ship in 100% recycled cardboard boxes with recycled packing materials.
