I found out about the patina Thunderdome from my daughter's pulmonologist at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Before that I wore regular off the shelf boots. Once he opened my eyes to the world of custom boots I decided to go with a pair of nicks with that beautiful logger heel. So today for the first time in over 30 days I put on a pair of my other boots so that I could take these out and photograph them for my one month photo submission. My other boots aren't cheap by any means, they were $300 boots that I thought were pretty amazing. They probably are pretty amazing, but during that time of going out and photographing my new Urban Loggers I realized some things. The first thing I noticed was how much I missed that high arch in my Nick's 55 last. After 30 days straight wearing the same boots that high arch was one of those things that you never knew you would appreciate until you had it. The other thing I missed by putting on my off-the-shelf boots was that amazing stability in the ankle that the Nicks gives me, I always felt secure in my other boots until today. And finally, I realized how the Nicks boots are really starting to conform to my foot, the boots that I thought were once comfortable just didn't have that same nurturing feeling that the Nicks now give me. This experience has been eye-opening to say the least and I have really enjoyed connecting with a pair of footwear like I never thought I would.

When I saw Nick's post the Natural Chrome XL Urban Loggers with Honey Lug soles up on Instagram I immediately knew that was the boot style I wanted for my first Patina Thunderdome
Went with the Brannock measurement and the recommended 1/2 size down
Ordered online through Nick's website. Wasn't sure what I was doing at first as it was my first pair of custom boots, but with a little help and a few emails to the great customer service folks at Nick's the order was a breeze.
