Use & wear

Leisure
Snow
Wet Conditions

Worn almost daily, a little bit of snow, rain and mud but nothing substantial. Had to apply some Smith’s wax to the edges of the midsoles and heel stacks a couple times.

Care Routine
Durability

Not as much indigo crocking as I had hoped for, but they’re still evolving. Gave them a decent brushing all over about once a week, spot brushing whenever needed. A light conditioning with Obenauf’s on the inside of the shaft helped with flexibility.

Satisfied with the Fit

This is my favorite 55 last size/spec. The break-in was what I was expecting with the “roll of quarters” arch support taking the longest to mold into shape. Still worth the effort to me, “locking-in” to a broken-in pair of Nick’s is something I’d recommend to anyone.

Hardware

One of my favorite boots. Almost everything I wanted in an engineer boot. Heavy-duty brass buckles and hardware. I just wish the soles and heels matched but it doesn’t really bother me.

Sole & heel

Traction

Hardly any wear on the soles. Manageable traction in the snow, not great on slick ice.

Durability

Just a little bit of heel strike rounding starting show, plenty of life left.

Looking forward to these getting even better over the years.
