Rancourt & Co.
They have been my constant companion for the past six months. They have joined me almost every day at work, tromped through the woods, kept my feet surprisingly warm in the snow, and joined me in all of my travels. Have they been the best option for all of my use? No. Have they been a reasonable option for everything I threw at them? Surprisingly, yes.
It's Natural Chromexcel. If you have never had a pair of footwear in it, you should. It's great. This pair has been predictably great, and aside from some reasonable creasing, no loose grain or other issues. No break in, occasional brushing, minimal spot conditioning. As they have evolved, they have started to gain that depth and richness that CXL does so well. The color ranges from a flat reddish mid-brown to a rich carmel based on light. I can't wait to continue to see them grow and evolve over the years.
Comfy. I did have to size up one width from a 12D in the Rancourt 115 last to a 12E width in the 2592 due to toe splay and pinky rub. I initially ordered 12D, and had a painless interaction with Rancourt customer service to swap them out to a wider pair. They molded to my feet very quickly and now wear like leather socks. The combination of the moccasin construction and CXL made for very comfortable boots.
No notes. Handsewn moccasins, made in Maine, in boot form. They feel and look like moccasins, but cover the ankles. I wasn't sure how I would feel about all of the vertical lines on them formed by the various layers of leather, but it grew on me. I would love to figure out some non-rawhide laces that will work with them, but that has eluded me thus far. Aside from that, they are everything that you would expect and nothing you wouldn't. The hand stitching is great, the clicking is solid, and I don't see anything that would cause a durability concern. No issues, great quality.
They are fine. They were more comfortable than I expected, the white color evolved into a more neutral shade, and they handled the miles well. They provided good traction on everything from snow, to ice, to gravel, to slippery rocks and wet tile. I liked them more than I thought I would, but I don't love wedge soles in general. I like shoes to have more ground feel, especially with moccasins. I will likely replace them with Reltex soles in the very near future, due to preference, not need or discomfort.
Padding through your daily life with supple leather wrapped around your feet ain't a bad way to live. These are great quality mocs made out of pliable and plush, yet supportive leather. It is a great combination, I regularly smiled when I put them on in the morning. They are very different from my Nick's boots from last year's dome, but both are great in their own way. If you are on the fence about buying a pair, you should do it. I look forward to continuing to grow and evolve with these boots over the years.
