I have worn these Russell Traveling Sportsman approximately 2-4 days of the week throughout the entire Thunderdome. This has included work, running errands, walks, and some travel. They have been worn in dry weather as well as snow, ice and rain.
The french veal leather took no time to break in. It was soft and supple from day one. This leather is the definition of a slow patina. It has developed some slight rolls and wrinkles throughout the process, but besides a couple scuffs from rubbing on concrete looks almost new. It has also darkened very slightly from new. To clean them, I wiped them off with a clean towel lightly dampened with water. I let them dry completely and conditioned with a light application of Pecards leather lotion.
The fit of these shoes has been great. I have been able to wear them for full days with no discomfort. I am able to wear different thickness socks without them feeling loose or tight.
I feel these shoes offer a lot of versatility, being something in between a typical shoe and a tall boot. The materials used and craftsmanship are both top notch and something that will truly last. I have worn these several days a week throughout the Thunderdome in many different conditions, and they still look great.
These soles have a bouncy cushion to them and good ground feel. Much of the wear time on them has been spent on hard surfaces such as concrete, and they show little wear. The only negative I have experienced was they can be a little slick on smooth wet surfaces. Overall I think they are a very comfortable sole and have been able to wear them for long days without an issue.
