Use & wear

Office Work

I primarily work in an office / lab environment with occasional travel into a manufacturing site for my company. I also wore them while running errands and they quickly become my go to pair although I typically wore them every other day where sometimes I’d avoid wearing them for a few days if they were still wet from snowy conditions.

Patina Process

The waxed flesh leather lives up to its reputation for being a work type leather. These boots were ordered while Classic Works was doing an MTO in November 2024. Black waxed flesh was one of the options and I always wanted a captoe Horween waxed flesh 310 service boot from Viberg given some posts on IG. In hindsight I probably could have asked for brown waxed flesh but have enjoyed wearing these and one might argue black waxed flesh is a bit underrated in terms of the different waxed flesh colors Horween offers. Despite some of the scuffs on the toe and heel areas I don’t really think I rubbed off much of the wax. Given that black waxed flesh is much less popular than its brown counterpart it is hard to determine how the patina will evolve overtime. I’ve seen pictures where underneath the waxed layer the roughout nap is more of a grey whereas what I’m seeing on my boots now is a brown nap but that might mean I have a lot more of the wax to wear down. Nonetheless I look forward to seeing how the patina evolves overtime.

Satisfied with the Fit

I sized a half size down from my Brannock (HTB: 8.5D, HTT:8D). Compared to the 2030 last I probably could’ve went a full size down but wearing slightly thicker socks helps mitigate any slippage. Also I have relatively skinny ankles so not sure if that factors in at all. The 310 last also is comfortable as it has a nice rocker like motion when walking that either becomes less apparent once broken in or is something I’m used to. A lot of people think the 310 looks clown shoe like but I found on foot it might look slightly wider but honestly think Viberg’s photography doesn’t do it any favors.

I own a few Vibergs and will say that this is one of the better if not the best finished boots I have from them. Clean stitching all around and nicely clicked leather. When Viberg gets it right it’s pretty good.

Comfort

Feel like it is sort of a jack of all trades sole. Hadn’t run into issues while shoveling my car during this years heavy snowfall or the rain. Only issue is on wet linoleum floors where I think most soles would feel like ice skates.

Final thoughts

Would Recommend

I look forward to continue wearing these for years to see how the patina evolves. Viberg should give the people what they want in the form of more waxed flesh 310s (and more 145 oxfords).
