The heel is as supple as can be, but the vamp has kind of set almost in a shell that's the shape of my foot. You can literally tap on the rolls and they don't really give. I'm wondering if that's the effect of the "hot salt soak" that Oak Street describes.

The break in for these was super easy and a breeze, I mean they are slippers? 😂 the rolls started right away and they instantly molded to my feet. They were a bit snug at first but that only took a few minutes before they were perfect! The leather really held up amazingly!! They needed bo care, I brushed them one time and they are just amazing! Oak Street Bootmakers Trench Boot in Horween Natural Indigo Chromexcel RoughoutBy ShawnParr • April 5, 2024"Being rough out they hide abrasions, nicks, and scratches very well. The indigo dye is meant to wear off and at first it is gradual and subtle, but accelerates with time.
The break-in for the leather was practically non-existent. I found the soles to be more foot friendly than the Dainite style.
For care I occasionally used a horse hair brush to remove dust and pollen. I was careful not to overdo this in order to avoid removing the indigo dye...."Read the full review

The break in was easier than a typical PNW that I’m used to. Since these are rough out boots my care routine was mostly brushing off dried mud and rinsing with cold water if needed. I was trying to preserve as much indigo as possible thinking I should treat them similarly to raw indigo jeans. I wanted high contrast fades! An occasional boot drier after particular rainy days in the field. At months 5 and 6 I did a gentle wash with Sapfir Suede soap right before monthly photos were taken...."Read the full review
