I loved the contrast black reverse waxed camel tongue. They were fairly soft from day one, but softened up quickly. After the first handful of wears, subtle patina started to show at creases and high friction areas. I loved seeing how the waxes and resin wears away and nap starts to come through. By month 4, these really started patina nicely, with defined contrast areas. I wore these pretty hard, and never got tired of seeing more character develop with each new wear.
For care, I did nothing but brush vigorously after a few wears, and occasionally put shoe trees in them if I wasn’t wearing them for more than a day or two (which only happened a few times over the course of the dome.)..."Read the full review
Slow burn worth the wait for Nicks Parkhurst V2 Thunderdome 2024-2025

I have had other nicks leathers that were also robust and durable that showed patina after only a few weeks or months of light (2-4 times worn/week) wear. This leather challenged me and I always referred to them as
"slow burn" patina. After around month 3 there were some faint evidence of nap showing through the wax and the intensity of the exposure of nap never grew drastically in magnitude through the duration of dome but the nap was exposed in wider swaths of leather throughout the boots. They Live Up to the Hype
Nicks Lace Up Heritage in Horween Tan Waxed FleshBy polishengineering • December 29, 2024"I'm a sucker for burgundy leathers, so this is a winner in my book. Though it's completely misnamed, because "tan" it is not. That quibble aside, this leather is tough stuff.
I hadn't had a PNW boot before so it took some getting used to leather of this thickness. For a brief moment I actually thought there had been a mistake because I could barely squish the toe and I had ordered unstructured. But no worries, collapse it did.
Break in was a bit tough in the shaft and I needed to lace skip some laces around my ankle bones for a week or so while that softened up.
The leather takes direct shots from kicked rocks, shovel swipes, and toe dragging when on my knees with zero issues.
The patina that's starting to come through is fantastic. Nothing but regular brushing and wet towel wipe downs and it's holding strong...."Read the full review

It's slowly wearing through and giving a peek-a-boo kind of patina that is subtle. Even where it is work it still doesn't look shabby. Not yet anyway.
I'm actually not a huge fan of the lace to toe pattern. There's is a ridge just below the first eyelets that tends to fold in and rub my big toe. It's not exactly painful, but more annoying.
I'm also not a fan of the ridge caused by the dream going right up the center of the toe, but this isn't a sleek boot, so I'm not going to complain.
The leather doesn't give. When tied tight it is like wearing a cast, but sometimes that's what I want, so I like having the option of lacing tight or a little loose for different activities.
I have brushed them a couple times and I've sprayed the dirt and sand off periodically. That's it...."Read the full review

The break in process went quite quickly as I was working anywhere from 16-18 hour days for 25 straight days. I watch the leather go from its burgundy color to a tan rough out. It’s started to burnish around the heavily abused surfaces such as my toe box. I got to watch this process in slow motion with biweekly brushings, unless heavily soiled. As I didn’t want to man make any unnatural patina. As for durability I highly recommend a waxed flesh to anyone in the trades as it’s rugged yet resilient to heavy abuse with tons of loving care...."Read the full review

These boots were comfortable from the start, so I didn't need to do much to break them in. I wore them around the house and on short errends for an hour or two at a time for a week or so. After that, I just wore them as I would any other boot. I've been careful to get and mud or debris off of them. For a care routine, I really just used a damp cloth or a dry brush to clean them off. Nicks x Rose Anvil ND3 in Horween Brown Waxed Flesh & Seidel 1964 Brown SmoothBy cjelliott • October 7, 2024"It's starting to flex much more in the forefoot and hasn't given any bights or hotspots on the uppers. They hold up to moisture and heavy dog feet (whom tend to stand right on your metatarsal when on walks). I wore these 3 days straight and only had discomfort on my right (wider) foot where the sock liner ended as the leather was beginning to stretch. The ankles feel great and very few issues were noticed. I did spill some mopwatter on the right boot and didnt notice any issues as it dried.
General brushing every other day and a quick wipe off of any sticky liquids during bar service occurs...."Read the full review
