Frank's Boots
Worn these almost everyday in the PNW. In the therapy office, evening walks, a trip to Italy, a couple hikes, and lots of line dancing. Trying to keep them looking nice, so I change out of them for yard work and heavy labor. A fantastic boot that gets compliments everywhere I go. As quality PNW boots, they are a bit heavy for some of the line dancing I do, but they sure are great for stomping (yee haw)! Leather companies, please produce at least a few options for people who prefer bold and bright color, especially in the pink and purple varieties.
Cypress Tokyo Purple is as vibrant now as it was brand new. The main reason for choosing this specific leather was for the color (I wish there were more pink and purple options), and it has not disappointed. I suspected the color would darken, but i am impressed that it has kept the same color over time. I love that the color is struck through, and it’s even even more pink/purple under the surface when scuffed, which will make an even better patina over time. Break in was a little stiff at first, but totally normal. Supple now, except still a little stiff right in the ankle. My only care has been frequent brushing/buffing, no additional conditioner/polish has been applied yet
Arch support was fantastic! Just like other high heeled narrow toed boots I’ve had. But the fit was just a little bit skinnier than comparable boots of the same size in the 5812 last. It’s taken a little more breaking in having to wear thinner socks. I would probably size up one width (from b to a c) if I were to order again. But still easy to wear them for hours
Excellent construction and finishing. 2 possible suggestions: I wish the toe bug was bigger, and I wish that the uppers wrapped around the front of the foot just a little bit more. I have fairly thin ankles/calves and there is quite a bit of space between the laces. Totally still functional, but wish the laces came together more in the middle. Very durable boot, fully lined, high quality!
The Dr. Sole Supergrip does the job, but honestly doesn’t seem like anything special compared to the vbar on other boots. They are quieter (though i actually like the click clack). The plugs on the heel did not allow for the traditional packer heel, instead requiring the dogger heels. I originally thought that I would like the half sole, maybe more flexible and looking sleeker than a full sole. in retrospect, the difference in appearance is negligible and there is no difference in flexibility/comfort or grip. But in practicality, the half sole is less functional for some specific purposes. For stirrups, or for using a shovel, I would prefer the full sole option. So…. I would personally opt for a full sole if doing again.
The dogger Dr. Sole has been totally fine. Great construction, Very stable and durable. But for my purposes (preferring a narrower heel for line dancing and sleeker look) I would have preferred a packer heel, which was not possible on the Dr.sole heel.
This doesn’t necessarily apply to this specific boot, but please market more to women and nonbinary users. These boots are wonderful expressions of my identity, but it sure seems that most of the users in Patina project are men, despite the fact that there are so many non-men who also work in these fields. industries that can appreciate quality boots. Franks did a great job with my boots, but I’m sure they (and others) could do even more in marketing to women and nonbinary folks more broadly.
