These boots were made for Brooklyn, and that's exactly where they've lived. I met Jorge Guadarrama at the Boot Camp in Brooklyn in 2023 — he was wearing a pair of boots he'd made himself, and when I admired them, he told me he was looking to take on his first clients. I said yes on the spot. For the past six months of this competition, I've worn them just about every other day through the full range of city life — subways, grates, cobblestones, rain, and everything in between.
The Horween English Tan has transformed beautifully. What started as a warm, uniform tan has deepened into a rich gradient — dark burgundy building at the toe and heel, bright cognac holding through the shaft. The leather has become supple and responsive without losing structure.
The boot is built on the Heladio 1927 Last, but Jorge didn't stop there — he took detailed measurements of my feet and customized the last accordingly. About halfway through the build, we met for a trial fitting on a test pair, which let him dial in the final adjustments. I told him I prefer a snug, tight fit, and that's exactly what he delivered. Six months of near-daily wear later, they've molded just enough to feel genuinely personal — and still fit just how I like them.
There is nothing to criticize — and plenty to admire. The stitching is clean and consistent throughout, but what really speaks to Jorge's attention to detail are the small choices that reveal a true craftsman: the spine running along the outer heel, and the curved, beveled middle section of the sole. These aren't shortcuts or standard features — they're decisions. The green lining and brass eyelets have held without any degradation. Every close inspection rewards you with something new.
I chose to go with a leather sole, and Jorge selected both the leather and the thickness. It was the right call — the substantial sole suits the boot's style perfectly, giving it a presence and weight that feels intentional. The Piodusini Old Bark has proven remarkably durable; six months of near-daily city wear and it's still solid, showing minimal signs of use. The heel cup & spine have held their form without any compromise.
I didn't just commission a pair of boots — I backed someone at the beginning of something. Watching Jorge's craft and watching these boots develop their character over the same period has made wearing them feel like more than just footwear.
