Up 1/2 size to a 14. Due to a 14.5 HTB Brannock. May 14 HTT, 13.5 Nicks size put the boot arch slightly behind my foot arch. Corrected that with this pair and find the fit more natural.

More about this item

Purchased during the Slip Sole Shortage of ‘26. Incredible turnaround time for a non-stocked size boot.

Nick’s Handmade Boots are heavy. In a good way. Solid all Leather construction. But the restrictions and added weight of 10” boots is excessive for a non-construction site job. Wanted a boot that could put in the work. But not look out of place in casual settings.

Online Guide

I have previously chosen a Nicks size 13.5. My HTT Brannock of 14 and Nicks sizing guide looked right. But the boot arch felt a bit too far back. With my foot being a 14.5 HTB, I ordered these is a 14. The arch and fit are much more natural.

28 Days from order to on feet is unheard of for Nicks Boots. A fire at the Vibram factory delayed Nicks shipment of rubber slip soles. They were not able to build Loggers boots, or any boot needing a Lug outsole. They offered a Quick Ship Sale on V-Bar & Mini-Lug outsole Heritage boots, to keep their production line running full. Minimal choices. No custom options. No price discount. But lightning fast delivery. As first stated; 28 days! For perfectly constructed handmade boots.

Use & wear

Leisure

The break in started on the 1st day after receipt. MaxSupport Black will take awhile. The Palisade with its single piece backstay isn’t as locked in as a standard heelcup & backstay. But, there is no noticeable slip.

Break-In

New and stiff. As expected and no bite. I know how great and supportive this leather can be. It’s just not there yet.

Satisfied with the Fit

A 1/2 size bump up from my last Nicks pair. Tall toe is stating it mildly. Very prominent next to my 55 Last Nicks pair. The arch support feel natural when I sized up to a Nicks 14, with my 14.5 HTB Brannock.

For a boot delivered in 28 days. No shortcuts found. Tight stitching. Great lines. Nothing out of place. Out of all my Nicks; this pair has the best fit-n-finish of them all. Impressive for a 28 day delivery.

Traction

The Palisade is made with a V-Bar in stock form. The 430 Mini-Lug was an option. I find the mini-lug to be more flexible than the V-bar and have the right amount of tread for daily wear, while still being more than enough for the unexpected job or work needs.

The logger heel is the OG look of PNW Boots.

Final thoughts

Would Recommend

Knowing that these are better sized for my foot is comforting. Arch placement is perfect and having the right amount of extra length in the toebox to accommodate ’toe curl’. I look forwards to this break in and the years to come after.

Tough go at the Dome

Nicks TankerPro in Seidel WeatherShield Black Smooth
By ofdff • April 5, 2024"Well, the dome is officially over for me, but I had the feeling a month in that I was done. These tankers are my work boots, so the logical thought was the work category. After the 1 month update photos were uploaded, I immediately realized I was no match for the guys literally running their boots into the dirt every day. As a firefighter, and more specifically an engineer (driver), these boots have a little different use case than the others in the work category. They see 10 shifts a month, so they’ve only had 64 wears while in the dome (I don’t suck at math, but I do work some overtime). 10 wears per month is certainly a setback for getting the same results as everyone else, but there is a strict rule: Work boots stay at work (for good reason). Each shift has these boots on my feet for about 18 hours, and they have been incredibly comfortable the whole time! The weather shield black is a durable son of a gun, and hardly shows patina. Great for most situations, but not the dome. My ‘dirty’ is much different than most of the others in the work category. While they haven’t been caked in mud, hydraulic fluid, or fertilizer like some of the others, they’ve seen their fair share of filth. They’ve stepped in blood, sweat, and any other number of fluid/tissues you can imagine coming out of a body. They’ve stomped out burning trash after the ‘urban outdoorsmen’ were informed their kitchen was out of line with the current burn ban. Their toes have been buried in the dingy carpet of the local crack houses while we pump on chests, push narcan to reverse the overdoses, and try everything we can to bring someone back from the brink of death, even though we know it’s too late. These boots certainly have stories to tell, and even without winning this contest, I appreciate the dome. Without it, they’re just boots. The Dome gives us all a reason to stop and reflect on the past 6 months, as cheesy as it sounds, but I’m still thankful nonetheless. Good luck to all the other contestants!..."Read the full review
