Just regular office work, walking the dog, cycling around. We had a lot of snow in January and the dainite soles were not up to the task at all. Had a couple of deep gashes on the left boot from a sharp edge on my bike stand. Sad, but they thankfully didn’t seem to affect weather protection too much.
It’s been great. Hardly any break-in, and getting some nice colour deepening. It was already relatively dark when I got them, but the colours became a lot richer over time. I’ve conditioned them when they felt dry: once about midway through and once at the end.
The W2298 last is an odd one. I wore a pair of reverse suede Trickers Simon in the W2298 last for the dome last year in size 10.5, which was a little too small. This time I went with a size 11 which was a bit too big and needed a full insole. It was a blessing in disguise because these can really do with the added arch support from an insole. Otherwise the last is quite a smart one, facings nice and close, which makes them look a little dressier.
Beautiful boots. I got these from the factory shop directly but suspect they were samples for a DR collaboration. They look like quite a regular pair of cap toe boots at first glance (definitely not as ornamented as a Stow brogue) but have pinking throughout which is a rather elegant touch. Design, finishing, and construction all exactly like you’d expect from Trickers. Possible they were seconds/factory shop because of the clicking but hard to say if that was leather selection or just natural variation in the Dublin.
Generally love a dainite, but turned out to be terrible in the snow.
They’ve seen me through the most turbulent period in my life when I moved house, had a kid, and lost a parent all in the space of a month. I can’t explain why, but it gave me comfort knowing I had a solid pair of well made boots keeping my feet dry and comfortable throughout.
