Having seen some great patina evolve on other people boots in same leather makes me hopeful about my own journey! My wear pattern is not ideal for quick patination, but I'll get there with time.
Leather cleans up well with a stiff bristle brush. I've applied Saphir Renovateur on the inside to help with the break-in and Saphir super invulner spray on the outside for water and stain resistance. The break-in has been easy, the 55 last was a good fit for my wide forefoot and narrow midfoot/heel. I could have gone up a size in width from D to E, but fit is comfortable.
After wear I fold the half gusseted tongue down the front to help with drying. Roughout is very tough and seems highly resistant to scratches, great feature as I often walk through brambles, bushes or kick into sticks. First pair of boots with an unstructured toe, excited see how this slowly collapses and take a shape over time...."Read the full review
Wonderful Work Boots

The leather really can snap back with some conditioner and reminds me of CXL in how it can be both comfortable and durable. I used blackrock conditioner on them twice during the dome and will probably only need to do this every 3 months or so going forward. The boot took about 3 months to break in fully because the sole and fit was tight at first and rigid. The leather seems to be very breathable and even would recover fast after being in standing water at times. I love that it’s a substantial work boot leather and I love that I don’t need to think about anything wearing these boots. Compared to my veg.-tanned horsehide boots the leather felt soft from the very beginning - not Horween CXL soft though. After the first few months (in reality that’s days) the leather became softer and softer and the toe started to collapse. The leather does great in the rain. Rain drops/ water is visible for a few seconds and then basically absorbs into the leather without leaving any stains. Where scratched light undertones started to show through, however, overall the leather isn’t very prone to scratches. Compared to brand new, I feel the leather got slightly darker. So far I didn’t use any care products except for a brush to get rid of dust and dirt after smaller hikes...."Read the full review

Nicks x Rose Anvil ND3 in Horween Brown Waxed Flesh & Seidel 1964 Brown SmoothBy cjelliott • March 22, 2025"This is a very slow patina leather, hard-wearing, and very resilient. The toe structure of this boot seems like it has some celastic in it based on feel but I understand them to be a soft toe, it's just so thick that you would need to essentially puncture the toe to get through the leather. For the first 3 months the vamp didn't flex much, it relaxed at 6 months. I dont have any issues with overheating in this leather.
Care is mostly brushing as this leather dosnt show signs of dryness considering the wax content...."Read the full review

Nicks Robert in Seidel 1964 Brown SmoothBy Monkley • April 1, 2024"The only break in issue I had was on my ankle on the left boot. I suspect it was related to where an eyelet sat relative to my foot and not related to the leather. It has since gone away.
The leather has held up well. There's some staining, but I think any brown boot will experience that with my usage. Even the rough chemical burn spot on the toe has plenty of juice left - no sign foreseeable failure.
Care was a light coat of Venetian (shoe cream or leather balm, I forget) to add a little wax at the start. This was in hopes of delaying or preventing chemical spotting.
Any dry spots throughout I would use bick4 or Smith's leather balm to spot condition.
The one harsh chemical burn was moisturized after scraping off the burnt top layer with Smith's, then some wear and another spot of Smith's followed by tokonole to try and seal it...."Read the full review
