The Canada West Shoe Manufacturing Company started in Winnipeg in 1931. That entity continued until 1959, at which point production stopped and the business assets were sold. In 1978, William Moorby and a group of associates purchased the assets from a shoe plant that was closing in Winnipeg’s north end. The name was obtained from the original founder’s family and used for the company’s relaunch.
Canada West Boots maintains a factory at 1250 Fife Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Approximately 65 employees work at this location. The facility produces about 200 pairs of shoes each day.
Canada West Boots uses the Goodyear welt construction method, a shoemaking technique developed by Charles Goodyear in 1890. This approach joins the upper and sole of each boot by sewing, as opposed to gluing.
Canada West Boots produces multiple categories of footwear, including western boots, work boots, slip-on boots, and styles intended for motorcycle use. The company introduces new styles and leather colors each year.
