Shinki Black Teacore Oiled Horsebutt is a specialty teacore-style leather produced by Shinki Hikaku tannery in Himeji, Japan. This leather features a black surface finish applied over a contrasting core color, creating the distinctive teacore characteristic where underlying tones emerge through wear and use. The oiled horsebutt construction provides the dense, tight grain structure typical of horse posterior leather, combined with the visual transformation properties of teacore finishing.     By xb • April 15, 2024"Unfortunately I did not wear these boots as much as I would have liked however I did put in good mileage from walking around nyc. I work from home so these boots saw more intermittent but long walking distance outings. I think the lack of wear was a function of evolving style taste and also convenience (shoes off household). I am still trying to figure out where these boots land between something I love to wear and something that I think is cool but isn’t for me. Maybe it depends on the outfit, maybe it depends on where I am going for the day. I will say these boots held up tremendously to winter weather. I tried to avoid wet weather when possible but I did catch myself reaching for these boots in all but the most torrential of conditions. I did try to give the boots good rest days between getting drenched as I find it hard to not baby boots that look this good!..."Read the full review

    By roger___af • April 4, 2024"I've worn these boots 87% of the days of the competition - so I've done almost everything in them. I usually take them off when I'm exercising, but they've been on my feet pounding pavement on my walk to and from the subway every day (~10k average steps) as well as at the hospital where they've helped protect my feet during intraoperative neurosurgical consultations and brain cuttings. (I'm about to complete a fellowship in neuropathology.) They've been on many playground outings with my daughter, trips to Hawaii, Normandy, and Paris - where they've been on hikes up mountains and on beaches. They've had a few brief dips in the ocean as well as through snow storms and torrential rain. They've been a point of discussion with the pathology residents - who now know a bit more about boots, leather made from Polish horses, and leather jackets. They were a gift to myself at the end of my pathology residency - and they've been a constant well loved companion on a pretty remarkable 6 months for me - the end of my time as a trainee and a symbol of some of what I've been able to accomplish thanks to decades of hard work...."Read the full review

Being in in a walkable neighborhood, they were with me in countless trips the grocery, library, barbershop, park, laundromat, bank, hardware store, restaurants, office, and (my favorite) when I would take a walk after dinner. As for special occasions, the first week of wear coincided with the first time my mom visited from the Philippines so I broke in the boots showing her around San Francisco. I was also fortunate enough to take the boots to Providence in the winter where my wife had a grad school residency. There was no snow but it was cool to walk around a new city that had an old world feel to it...."Read the full review
