Despite their differences...I'm really happy with this pair of service boots.

I'm a delivery driver...you know the guys in those brown trucks. In and out of the trucks, diggin' around in the back, and to the door steps of many a house/buildings in PDX. Over and over and over again. Too many steps and stairs to count.
We got lots of rain and a little snow during the Thunderdome season and this pair exceeded my expectations. Feet were dry all season and no slips and falls. I can't ask for more out of a work boot. Usually I bust my butt at least once during the winter...not this year! They did great on the vast variety of surfaces in an urban/suburban environment. From asphalt to mossy stepping stones to gravel this pair has seen it and everything in-between.
They did go on a few forest trail hikes and some casual days of wear...."Read the full review

White's Semi-Dress in Horween Natural ChromexcelBy Way2Jeff • April 6, 2025"On Stitchdown, I’m a founding member and principal evangelist of the Fourth Toe Mafia—recognizing that many of us shoe warriors don’t have a ziggurat-like taper to our toes, and for many of us (the best of us), our fourth toe isn’t much further down (foot-south) than our big toe.
What does that mean? It means even the lasts for the everyman—the Barrie, the Leo, the Kobayashi-Maru—don’t fit us, because they BITE onto our fourth toes (or middle toes or pinky toes, as the case may be).
And it’s not a question of width. Just adding VOLUME doesn’t fix it because we often don’t need the space in our ankles, insteps, waists, etc. We just need a better shape for our tootsies! But the real shape of a foot is anathema to many cordwainers because it’s not a pointy toed elf shoe that’s easy to market.
Enter, the King of Lasts. The White’s 9338 Swing last. A last so ugly that White’s and Baker’s will repeatedly try to talk you out of ordering it. ‘Cause baby: it’s a fat last. It’s startling. It’s a clown shoe. You mentally prepare yourself but when you see it in person your heart drops to the pit of your stomach.
But then you try it on. Your toes…can breathe. They can move. There’s no bite, no pressure cutting across them on the sides. And, incredibly, your foot isn’t slipping out of the heel, and the sides don’t touch across the vamp! How can it be?! Did someone actually make a last…shaped like a foot??
I love the Fightin ‘38. It has a huge, softly round, broad toe that is lovingly accommodating to your fourth toe and all adjacent environs. But even better: it has a snug heel, a low instep, a tight waist, and even a low volume toe box, vertically speaking. It’s somehow both freakishly forgiving in the toe box while also being a low volume last overall. Many take it in the E width. It’s also HUGE in Japan—there’s a whole White’s community over there and they love the Swing and 55.
I’m so glad I found the ‘38 and will definitely order it again. For the first time in forever, I have a boot that doesn’t bite my ring toe and also doesn’t eject my heel to the moon with every step. Fourth Toe Mafia out!..."Read the full review

White's Custom Model in Horween Dark Brown Waxed Flesh & Seidel Brown DressBy a1moyer • April 3, 2026"I don't have anything exciting to add here. I did travel to Nevada for a few days though! 😆 Most of my boot wearing is done at work as a delivery driver. On the weekends I may go on a hike or kick around town doing chores and such. This pair has been a fine companion on my daily grind in the PNW.
We had a mild winter here in Portland. No snow or ice...just rain. ðŸ«
I'd say most of their days have been spent in SE Portland in the neighborhoods between the waterfront and SE 82nd ave. Typical urban environment with some excursions to the surrounding suburbs and a few days at the Oregon coast.
My work requires retrieving/organizing parcels in the back of the truck so some wear is acquired behind the bulkhead door.
Sidewalks, asphalt, stepping stones, concrete, gravel, grass, mud, dirt, steps, ramps, wooden decks, moss covered decks 💀, stone, and every other surface imaginable in a PNW neighborhood...these boots have been on.
The last two Thunderdomes I competed in the work category, but this year I wanted to run in the Open. I felt like the style of boot lent itself more to the Open category and wanted to rub shoulders with some patina legends!
I want to be forthright about how I wore this pair and be sure the judges know I wore these at work as well as in my off time...."Read the full review

That's the assignment for the Patina Thunderdome, and these boots have not had a day off — and after several years of doing this, I know how to put a pair through its paces. Fall yard work, snow shoveling and blowing, house projects — adding basement access panels, drainage trenching, the unglamorous stuff that actually tests a boot. The Farmer Rancher isn't cosplaying (like I am) as a work boot — it is one. They traveled with me across Oregon, Missouri, and Arkansas, and even made it to London to see some of their more refined cousins. Through all of it — the slush-soaked Minneapolis sidewalks, the transatlantic miles, the mud and the muck — they showed up every single day without complaint. I tried to wear them hard especially during the second half of the dome. These boots were worn on a ton of hikes through the Georgia mountains. Wore them to help my friend move a piano down three flights of ice covered stairs (do not recommend with leather soles). They also saw their fair share of skating. Managed to land a few kickflips, Ollie down some stairs, but sadly did not land the elusive tre flip. Overall fantastic boots...."Read the full review

The first day of the dome I laced the boots up for the first time and hopped right on a plane for a weekend vacation. I spent the first week breaking them in by walking all over San Francisco and attending a few concerts, then it was back to work.
