These boots handled it all. To be fair, even with the TPR infusion in the leather, on super rainy days, I would fall back to my waxed boots or my Goretex. I got my Red Wing 1907s resoled by Steve at Bedo’s Leatherworks (new welt, midsole, and outsole) in July 2025. Steve did an absolutely FANTASTIC job. He really breathed new life into them. July was also the same month my daughter was born. After i got my boots back from Steve, I tested them out for a bit and put them on the shelf, since I was going to be staying in the house helping the wife raise our newborn. I wasn’t planning on Doming this year, but the pre-worn category was announced a few months later, and I knew my boots were the perfect “fit” for the category.
I wore these for EVERYTHING. Most notably, at the Honolulu Marathon’s 10k portion where wife and I speed-walked our baby in her stroller through downtown honolulu. These boots helped keep my dogs from barking during the 10k and our trip to Japan, and they kept my feet dry while chopping through armored snow (what happened on the East Coast was weird).They’re surprisingly great beach boots, handling sand sprays with ease. Aside from those adventures, I’d wear them every day to work at my office job, gardening, moving furniture, family handy-man house calls, and hikes at the national and state parks...."Read the full review

However, once January hit, these were on my feet several days a week. This meant they were worn in my office job, shoveling snow, traveling on vacation, even working out in them.

White's MP-Sherman Plain Toe in Horween Black ChromexcelBy philbert • April 6, 2026"This pair is pretty darn close to perfect for my low key Pacific Northwest lifestyle. I wear chinos in a casual office setting where I’m on my feet a lot and these fit right in. Evening dog walks, bird watching (even through some pretty heavy brush), light duty hikes….. perfect. Weekend warrior remodel projects, gardening, up and down ladders pruning fruit trees…. Right on. The CXL on these is so nice and supple with a sugary break that is just right.
I wore these about 5 days a week through out the dome, with the off days being the occasions when I wore scrubs to work….. while they go with just about any fit, I couldn’t make them work with scrubs (although I tried it one morning…. Quick veto from the wife). They got soaked through, but only a couple of times…. Wet grass walking and the one snowy weekend we got this year in southern Oregon and, after a day to dry out, they bounced back and were all the better for it.
So easy to wear, so versatile, understated but special….. after six months of near daily wear I still look forward to putting them on. Thanks to White’s and Horween…. For making products you can be proud of. What a special thing that this kind of craftsmanship still exists in the world. There may not be one perfect pair of boots….. but if I had to pick one pair from my collection (small compared to some of you hard core aficionados), these would be them….. hands down...."Read the full review
