Jakkrabbits Monkey Boot in Maryam Olive HorsebuttBy hosekileather • April 1, 2025"These got an initial brushing and bick 4 conditioning heading into winter. The leather held up amazingly well. They creaked loudly at first. As the leather aged, it took on scratches and a greasy cut on the right toe. In the last 4-6 weeks, the patina of the teacore showed up as the olive finish color wore through. It just happened afrer a really dusty day and a good brushing. The boots got brushed before each set of photos and conditioned once mid-dome and again before final photos. They are solid boots and while the leather is now starting to wear and show character, the boots are just as strong and creaky as the first day. They just dont creak as loud. They breathe and kept my feet warm in -40C weather. If I didnt know better, this leather could be shell cordovan its so strong...."Read the full review

I haven't done anything crazy to patina them. They did get a sun tan, mostly below the cuff at first. Break-in has been pretty easy with just a little discomfort. That first week was a little rough. The horserump is a very hard wearing leather, it can definitely take the abuse. At first, the leather was very stiff. I was worried they would be that stiff forever, the first few days showed no sign of easing up. Then miraculously on day 7, I put them on and they felt completely different. They moved and flexed and responded accordingly without fighting back. Now after a second week, they are starting to show some wear. The leather is rolling/creasing. The teacore dye is starting to wear off slightly on the toe caps and heels. They've got a couple scuff here and there but you'd hardly even tell unless you're up close. Horse rump is some tough shit. So far the only care routine I've set for them is just to brush them down a few times a week and wipe dry if they get too wet on the job so they're not soaking in moisture...."Read the full review

I struggled with the tight fit because of my bunion, and the last is probably not ideal for my foot shape. Another aspect that surprised me is how soft the Maryam HB leather is. Although the leather is quite thick, it’s supple but scratches easily, and indentations seem to be permanent. I would prefer if the brown took a little longer to show through, but I do like the overall look of it. I use conditioner every one or two weeks, mainly to get rid of all the scratches, but I’d like to find one that makes the leather less shiny.
I would love more rolls on the vamp but I think the 206 last with the unstructured toe would be more suitable for that...."Read the full review

The color is darker than when i saw the leather hide from the maker. The break in was a little tough but not as bad as it could have been if the fit wasn’t so spot on. Took over 100 hours and roughly 25 miles until they felt solidly broken in. Developed nice rolls and I kind of liked the way the leather toe puff flattened out a little over time, creating an almost vintage look. Slow to teacore, but I kind of prefer that. Got to earn it more. Conditioned with Venetian shoe cream three times total. Brushed daily. Leather is a bit squeaky, especially where the tongue rubs against the facings. It gets squeakier as the leather picks up your sweat. Quiets down again after drying out. Never could eliminate the squeaks altogether. Probably my only pet peeve. Also, maybe it was just my pair but the Maryam horsebutt isn’t my favorite smelling leather. Almost mildly fishy/barnyardy. Definitely had me a bit self conscious at the office in meetings a couple times. It mellowed a little bit or maybe I just got used to it...."Read the full review
