I struggled with the tight fit because of my bunion, and the last is probably not ideal for my foot shape. Another aspect that surprised me is how soft the Maryam HB leather is. Although the leather is quite thick, it’s supple but scratches easily, and indentations seem to be permanent. I would prefer if the brown took a little longer to show through, but I do like the overall look of it. I use conditioner every one or two weeks, mainly to get rid of all the scratches, but I’d like to find one that makes the leather less shiny.
I would love more rolls on the vamp but I think the 206 last with the unstructured toe would be more suitable for that...."Read the full review

The break in was a little tough but not as bad as it could have been if the fit wasn’t so spot on. Took over 100 hours and roughly 25 miles until they felt solidly broken in. Developed nice rolls and I kind of liked the way the leather toe puff flattened out a little over time, creating an almost vintage look. Slow to teacore, but I kind of prefer that. Got to earn it more. Conditioned with Venetian shoe cream three times total. Brushed daily. Leather is a bit squeaky, especially where the tongue rubs against the facings. It gets squeakier as the leather picks up your sweat. Quiets down again after drying out. Never could eliminate the squeaks altogether. Probably my only pet peeve. Also, maybe it was just my pair but the Maryam horsebutt isn’t my favorite smelling leather. Almost mildly fishy/barnyardy. Definitely had me a bit self conscious at the office in meetings a couple times. It mellowed a little bit or maybe I just got used to it...."Read the full review

Sagara Cordmaster in Maryam Toscanello HorsebuttBy offwandered • April 6, 2024"This was my first pair of horsebutt (or anything horse), and I’ve been won over.
I love the rolls that have formed on the shaft (and to a lesser extent, at the base of the quarters towards the toecap). It’s taken the inevitable scuffing well, bouncing back without concern. Roughouts are my favourite to watch patina, I dig the dark spots, the flat spots, everything.
The first week I wore them, my whole foot felt bruised - everywhere. I had that deep dread feeling, that I’ve only read about on the Stitchdown Discord, about people who have had to abandon ship early due to fit issues. I spent the following week back in my beloved Birkenstock Bostons before taking another swing at it. Thankfully a week of rest was what I needed and I didn’t have any other break in issues!
Care-wise, they’ve been conditioned once (Huberd’s), brushed often and rinsed down a couple times (tap water and ocean water 🙃). Before taking my final Dome photos, I gave them a simple hand polish with neutral shoe cream, and re-sealed the sole edges.
I thought the intense “leather smell” would have fade on them by now, but that hasn’t happened yet. I don’t know if that’s common on horse, a weird quirk of Sagara, or this leather...."Read the full review
