These became my default boots for six months — chores, work, travel, anything else I had going on. The beauty of nice boots is that you can do almost anything in them and they hold up very well.
This leather takes a while to start moving (in terms of patina and change), but it shines incredibly well. It’s very tough but will become softer with wear. I brushed them with a horse hair brush, used VSC sometimes, wiped with a wet rag when they were dirty. Another six months and they will look very deep brown/black, I assume.
RW lasts are not my favorite due to the lack of arch support. I used a pair of Nicks delta arch 1/2 insoles to help with that. Break in was slow with a little hot spot on my heel, but otherwise I was really happy with the fit.
I love the classic styling of these and have been looking for a pair for a long time. There are some things I thought would improve the boot, so I had Unsung resole, and remove the toe structure. They also rewelted and made a nice heel stack that makes it look how I thought RW should have made these.
I’m a big leather sole fan but I know wearing these for six months would require something more than that. The topy is a great solution that keeps a low profile look with more traction and durability.
Fantastic as always, Dr. Sole makes a great heel.
These are tough to come by and I’m very happy with how they turned out. A highlight of my collection, for sure.
