Color Change

With hindsight, I should have got something lighter in colour for a patina competition, but I really like how dark the brown is. It goes with everything.

Satisfied with the Fit

At first it was a bit tight over the instep, but I wanted that for a loafer, and it broke in to be very comfortable. I expect Alden to have a bit more of an arch, but I should’ve noticed that at the store. Thanks Alden Madison, for the great fitting experience.

Aldens are so good. I was not expecting anything to be poorly done or out of place, and it was not.

I wore these leather soles in places one should not, and they held up admirably.

Final thoughts

Would Recommend
Good Value

These were my first pair of Alden loafers, and they did not disappoint. The Van last is kind of flat across the bottom, unlike a Berry or Trubalance, but it works well. Would definitely buy again, and excited to try with other leathers.

Alden x Brogue Boondocker Boot in Tan Suede
By Way2Jeff • April 6, 2025"Ah, suede. The leather that Seinfeld doomed to an eternity of prissing and pampering. Spray this, avoid that. Nobody believes in you, suede. Well, I do. At least, I do now. I thought a light colored suede would be doming on easy mode. Milkshake indys, snuff bucks, tan boondockers. Alas, good suede is good leather: it takes a beating, it yearns to live, and it’s master of its domain. So these are my Alden fauxdockers at the end of the ‘25 Dome. I grew to like this pair more and more as I wore them—they started out tight but I eventually found the right sock combo for them. They’re resilient, and didn’t show anywhere near as much wear as I expected. Beware the Ides of Suede. I love that Brogue/Alden made this boondocker-inspired boot. Sure, it ain’t a REAL docker, but most people don’t wax their heritage boondockers anyhow. As someone else once said: I’m not hitting the beaches of Normandy, I’m just trying to look good getting coffee. And it was the 379x last—the best Alden last you’ve never worn. Pardon the trope, but it’s huge in Japan. Tight heel, snug waist, medium vamp, moderate arch, good round toe. It’s everything you want in a boot that actually fits. Brogue are saints for making a dozen of these models every year. Long live the 379x! Alden is still my favorite shoemaker. I think the recent knocks on them are largely BS and/or borne of ignorance. But on top of their stalwarts, this pair—and many others—show what Alden, the old cur, and a bold young stockist like Brogue can do together...."Read the full review
